Sustainable Swimwear – Plus Size Style

Berlook sustainable plus size swimwear Tara Jane Style

I spend the majority of my summer in the water – which makes perfect sense living in the land of 10,000 lakes! Swimming is my happy place. I constantly joke that I was made to be in the water because my body is naturally buoyant. Literally. I’ll be with friends struggling to stay afloat while I’m barely moving and relaxing on the surface 😂.

I’ve done a lot of work over the years on my body confidence and being in a swimsuit, thankfully, doesn’t cause the same level of anxiety it used to, but finding a swimsuit that fits properly is an ongoing challenge. I’m a size 16 on top and a size 18 (sometimes 20) on the bottom and most brands sell bikinis only in one size. There’s also the issue with quality. As with most plus size or curvy friendly clothing, I often need to resort to purchasing swimwear based on photos online since the bigger retailers don’t carry my size in store. Because of that, I’ve often been bamboozled with swimsuits and how they look online vs. the quality of the suit when it arrives at my doorstop.

When Berlook reached out I was beyond excited to see that not only did they have curvy friendly STYLISH suits, but that their swimwear is made of recycled fabrics and STILL affordable. While sustainable plus size swimwear is out there, the cost usually makes it a unicorn for most women to justify. Especially women like me who need multiple suits to sustain their swimming habit 😏

Swimsuit 1: U Shape Bikini Top

Because of my difference in sizing on top vs. bottom, finding bikinis that fit me has always been a problem. I absolutely love that Berlook offers mix and match options. I’m obsessed with the U shaped wire accent and the tie back. Tie backs are another hack for me as a size 40B chest. Most B bands only go to a 38 which means I have unnecessary backrolls. A tie back allows me to adjust to my actual dimensions.

I paired this top with the high cut tankini bottoms, because I felt like they would help level out the amount of skin showing and also offer me the best sense of security while still emphasizing my curves.

Swimsuit 2: Peekaboo One Piece

I was grinning ear to ear when I tried this suit on. This one piece swimsuit provides coverage while still being stylish and even sexy.

Swimsuit 3: Twist Front Top

The biggest reason I picked two red bikinis was the option of mix & matching. As a consistent swimmer it helps to have options to change up your look!

I loved the crossover cut of these bottoms, because it really emphasizes the natural waist while providing high waisted coverage. A twist bikini top is also such a classic.
