I Met My Younger Self For Coffee – Self Love Journey

Younger Self for Coffee Tara Jane Style Version

Recently there has been a trend going on social media about meeting your younger self for coffee and the contrast between who you are now vs. then based off a poem by Jennae Cecelia.

I, like many others, were incredibly inspired by this and took to social media to share our own takes, but here, I wanted to be able to expand past the template to include more of the self love and healing journey.

I Met My Younger Self For Coffee

She came in a couple minutes late, flustered. I was already there because I was anxious about the parking situation.

Her eyes widened when she saw my red hair. “When did we get brave enough to dye it?!” I laughed as I told her we’ve done a lot of work on our confidence and although our worst nightmare did happen and we were told by some that they “like us better as a blonde,” it didn’t shake us and we do not regret it.

She was wearing too tight jeans & a peplum top. When she sat she adjusted herself “nonchalantly” to make sure the top was camouflaging her folded tummy. I smiled, with a little sadness in my eyes, and reassured her that eventually online shopping will become common and there are brands out there that make clothes that actually fit us and even though right now all we want is to wear the same clothes as everybody else, we will eventually find our own personal style.

She asked if we made it on reality tv. I laugh and tell her we turned down the interview and overshare on the internet instead and that now we share what size we are wearing instead of cutting out the tag.

She asked me if we fell in love and I told her yes and we’re married to someone who matches our nerd. I show her the “my precious” inscription on my ring and when she finds out he has a matching one she bursts out laughing. It’s on the tip of my tongue to warn her about the abuse, betrayal and pain we go through to get here, but the hopeful smile on her face has me remembering that those experiences shape her so I stay quiet.

She asked if we’re a mother. I hesitate for a moment, knowing that we do have moments where we still worry about it, but ultimately share that we decided that wasn’t our path. However, we enjoy our niecephews, have a career we excel at, a passport with multiple stamps, and most importantly, are content.

She asked what kind of dog we got and I grimaced as I told her our step-cat’s name is Seamus 😂

We finally decided to put in our order – an iced vanilla latte – and laughed when we realized our tastes there haven’t changed.

I can’t wait to meet her for coffee again when she’s this age.
