Being confident in my body isn’t a linear process. There are days when I put on a form fitting item like a bodysuit or a dress and I know I’m owning it but those days are often outnumbered by the days when I want nothing more than to hide under layers of clothes and fixate on what I deem my problem areas – like my arms, my stomach or my thighs.
Plus Size Date Night Dress
I was recently feeling pretty blah about myself while scrolling Tik Tok and found an account of a fellow size 18 wearing this amazing Amazon dress and my immediate thought was “Damn! She looks amazing! I could never pull that off!” Which made me start to think…we’re the same size, why do I think she looks amazing, but I wouldn’t?
Sure, her body was shaped a little differently than mine, but really the only difference was that she was oozing confidence and I was not. So I decided to say screw it and I not only found that same dress on Amazon, but I put it on and even POSTED IT ON THE INTERNET. I’m very proud of myself.

Body Confidence Journey
Like I said, body confidence for me isn’t always easy, but the last 5 years I’ve really made some strides and some of these tips have been extremely helpful for me so I’m going to share them in case you find it helpful, too!
Tip 1: Fake It Until You Make It
I love this quote:
“When we put on a piece of clothing we cannot help by adopt some of the characteristics associated with it, even if we’re unaware of it.”
Professor Karen J. Pine, Author of “Mind What You Wear: The Psychology of Fashion”
Proof that even if you’re not “feeling it” you’ll naturally start adopting the personality of your outfit, so if all else fails – fake it until you make it haha!
Tip 2: You’re Not Alone
Every single person in the world has insecurities and although this knowledge doesn’t magically make my insecurities go away, it helps ground me and reminds me that I’m not alone.
Tip 3: Practice Positive Affirmations

Self Love is a skill that you have to practice. If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to positive affirmations, the image above gives you some ones to start with!
Tip 4: When in doubt – always wear the dress!

XOXO, Tara
