As a life-long resident of Minnesota I’m very familiar with the fine line between wearing a coat as a style choice vs. as an essential need so who better than me to advise you on the 4 types of coats every person in a cold weather state should have?!

A statement jacket is your work or “church” jacket. This coat is “warm” but not the coat you’d plan to be outside for longer than the time it takes to walk from your warm car to a heated building. This coat is your “nice” coat.

Coat: Old Navy
Boots: Torrid
Jeans: Abercrombie & Fitch
Sweater: Walmart
Jacket 2: Classic Camel
There is nothing more classic than a camel coat. Similar to the statement coat, this is not necessarily a coat you’re going to be outside for a long time in, but it’s usually made of wool or a wool-blend so warm enough to wear on those sunny winter days.

Coat: H&M
Boots: Torrid
Jeans: Abercrombie & Fitch
Sweater: Walmart
Jacket 3: Long Puffer
This jacket is an everyday essential so most people have it in a solid/ neutral color like black, gray or blue. It’s more function than fashion, but there is no more realistic piece of winter fashion than a well fitting puffer.

Coat: Eddie Bauer
Boots: Torrid
Jeans: Abercrombie & Fitch
Sweater: Walmart
Jacket 4: Outdoorsy Coat
This is the coat you wear for all your outdoor activities…with snowpants. This particular coat has omni heat panels in it which makes it thermal while moving around outside. Perfect winter coat, because although bears get to hibernate when the temps are negative zero, we do not.

Coat: Columbia
Boots: Torrid
Jeans: Abercrombie & Fitch
Sweater: Walmart
Let me know which of these winter coats already exist in your wardrobe and which coats you plan to add!
XOXO, Tara
