As I mention on my homepage, I started this website, because I get genuinely excited when someone compliments my outfit, and even more so when that person is also plus sized and they’re complimenting me because they want to know where they too can find a good âxyz.”
Instead of an hourglass (I wish haha) I’d refer to my body as a pear shape – smaller chest with the widest part of my body being my hips, stomach, and thighs. Although women’s sizing is a joke (you can read my whole take on it here) I am generally a US 16/18 up top (XL/1X) and an 18/20 (XXL/2X) when it gets to my hips. On top of that I’m also 5’10” so it’s safe to say that finding clothes that fit me has turned me into an elite online shopper đ
Below I’m going to share my personal 10 favorite plus size friendly brands along with notes on their size ranges/size inclusivity and their affordability.
If you would have asked me for my list when I was in my 20s I’ll admit that this list would have been a bit different since I was cash strapped and focused on finding things as cheap as I could. While I do still shop some of those “save” brands (as annotated below), I am in a situation where I’m able to shop brands I’d consider “splurges” as well.
I debated how to rank the below as there are so many options – by size inclusivity, quality, price, etc, but ultimately I decided it makes the most sense for me to rank them from my most shopped brands to my least.
If you think a brand is missing or would have ranked them differently, let me know!
10 Best Plus Size Clothing Brands
1. Universal Standard | Sizes 00 – 30 | Splurge
Full disclosure that I am a Universal Standard Brand Ambassador so this is biased, but their clothing is made up of high-quality, timeless staples. Classic trench coats, high quality denim and what I’d consider wardrobe investment pieces that will be in style for years to come.
They are also innovative in offering everything in all sizes and utilize the real average American woman as the basis for their sizing chart. For example a US 18 is a M.
2. SHEIN Curve | Sizes 12 – 34| Save
I am also a SHEIN partner (find my current discount code here) but it would be a miss not to include them, because they are the one-stop shop for current trends. Their prices are dirt cheap so the quality of their clothes is hit or miss, but as someone who’s been plus sized since I was a pre-teen, there is a supreme satisfaction in knowing that if I see something on a brand website that is only available in straight sizing I can always find something similar on SHEIN.
3. ELOQUII | Sizes 14 – 32 | Splurge
Eloquii is the go-to for plus size work wear. I also love their selection of dresses. I say they are a splurge, but they do often run hefty promotions so keep checking back!
4. ASOS Curve | Sizes 12 – 22 | Save & Splurge
ASOS really runs the full gambit and offer things as affordable as a tanktop and as expensive as a wedding dress. They are my go-to for street wear.
5. Cider Curve | Sizes 12 – 26 | Save
Cider Curve is a new brand for me, but since finding them last year I have been a frequent shopper.
6. H&M | Sizes 0 – 30 | Save
I get that some items on H&M can be considered expensive, but for the most part they are extremely affordable and also offer closet staples for years to come.
7. Good American |Sizes 00 – 32 | Splurge
There is no question about it that Good American is a splurge brand, but they are a go-to for quality denim, athleisure and street wear.
8. Gap Brands (Gap, Old Navy & Athleta) | Sizes XS – 4X | Save AND Splurge
Old Navy is by far their most size inclusive and affordable brand of the three, however I do have quite a few pairs of jeans from Gap and when I’m ready to splurge on high quality athleisure I hit up Athleta.
9. Forever 21+ | Sizes 12 – 22 | Save
Yes, it does feel wrong being in my 30s and shopping at a place called Forever 21, but they offer all the new trends at such an affordable rate. I, personally, frequent their site for skirts and shorts.
10. Boohoo | Sizes 12 – 24 | Save
You can find pretty much anything at Boohoo and the prices are pretty affordable. I love their dresses and tops. Pants have been hit or miss for me.
Runner Up Brands
Below are some other plus size brands that are worth mentioning even though they don’t make it into my top 10.
1. Maurices
I’m adding in Maurices because I know they’re a plus size friendly retailer even if they are a place I rarely shop.
This is another brand I’m a partner with! They have a great cardigan and dress collection, however they have a much more colorful and romantic aesthetic than I do so they’re not my immediate go-to brand. Get my current discount code here.
3. SKIMS
I am obsessed with SKIMS bodysuits, bras and underwear. The reason they didn’t make my full list is because I do not shop them for everyday clothing.
As a size 16/18/20 I shop Abercrombie & Fitch all the time. Unfortunately that is the tip top of their sizing so while they are a great option for me, they are not necessarily a great plus size option across the board.
J.Crew Factory is another great place to shop for quality plus size work wear at a more affordable price. They go up to a 3X generally.
Let me know what you think and what brands you think are missing. You can find my essay on what being body positive means here and reminder that you can find all my current discount codes here.
XOXO, Tara
